I have worked for over fifteen years in NHS services as a Practitioner Psychologist. I have extensive experience of treating Depression, Anxiety Disorders (including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Agoraphobia), psychosis and psychotic disorders, Personality Disorders including difficulties with self-harm, impulsivity and emotional regulation, and substance and alcohol misuse. Alongside my NHS practice, I have also worked in the private sector since 2019, both as a self-employed psychologist in private practice, and as an employed clinician in the corporate sector, and more recently in the personal injury rehabilitation sector. I have experience in treating difficulties related to day-to-day life stress such as burn out, sleeplessness, excessive worry, interpersonal conflict, bereavement, and generalised anxiety, as well as in delivering Nice recommended treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
I have developed a specialist interest in trauma therapy. I am qualified and fully accredited as an Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist, which I offer either as a full stand-alone treatment or as an intervention integrated into a longer-term therapy. I also have a long-term specialist interest in mindfulness-based approaches to therapy. I find that these approaches (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in particular) are extremely helpful in enabling my clients to (re) connect to their core values of who they want to be as a person, and in ‘stepping to one side’ of the day-to-day anxieties and stresses that can make life challenging. These are useful skills for all of us to learn, and can be especially valuable when managing work related stress, and in enabling my clients to reach their full potential in their professional and personal lives.
